CONSPIRACY THEORIES

The first theory on the death of the rockstar is that his wife had him killed. Courtney Love’s father Hank Harrison believes his daughter has something to do with the death of her late husband. In an interview with NBC, Mr. Harrison said “She is a psychopath, she has a sociopathic personality like I do. I don’t know who killed him. I know who benefited from his death, my daughter, for one” (Nye, James. “Courtney Love’s Father Claims SHE Was Responsible For Cobain’s Death”.) Tom Grant, a private investigator hired by Courtney Love to find Kurt after he disappeared from rehab, also distrusted Courtney Love and said she “Began the first phone call with a lie” (Soaked in Bleach 1). He said he felt from the very first interaction with her that she was hiding things and decided to record every interaction they had (Soaked in Bleach 1). It does seem there was trouble between Kurt and Courtney. Kurt called Rosemary Carroll, the Godmother of Frances Bean, and asked that she take Courtney out of the will (Soaked in Bleach 1). Miss Carroll stated to Tom Grant that she believed the suicide note was put together from things Kurt had written at different times (Soaked in Bleach1).There is some evidence that Kurt had injected more than a lethal amount of heroin and would have been unable to pull the trigger (Halperin and Wallace, Love and Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain 1). Between the family lawyer, the private investigator, and Courtney’s father, it certainly seems there is reason to suspect foul play.

The second theory on the death of Kurt Cobain is that he took his own life. He struggled with depression early on in his life and his mother did her best to talk him through it. (Staff, Ew. “Kurt Cobain: A Mother’s View.”).  “Kurt’s problems were ongoing, and we struggled with them for years,” says Wendy O’Connor “He would call me crying and suicidal. He would always call when he got desperate” (Staff 1). Wendy said when she did not hear from him the week of his death it was horrible “because I knew” (Staff 1).

He struggled to get clean but was somehow unable or unwilling to stop using heroin. He had been depressed since his parents divorced when he was a young child (Azerrad, Michael. Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana.). His lyrics showed the deep inner pain he has had for a long time. His mom said Kurt was always laughing, even through his pain but one day, she said, “he just stopped laughing”, it was then she knew how serious his mental health was becoming (Staff 1). Kurt had an overdose in Rome a month before he died (Soaked in Bleach 1). At the time, it was called an accidental overdose but after his suicide, it is now considered his first suicide attempt (Soaked in Bleach 1) The Seattle Police Department has not changed their opinion that after a full investigation, this was nothing more than a tragic suicide (Soaked in Bleach 1). Despite the ruling of the Seattle Police Department, it seems the question of Kurt’s death remains a mystery. Was it Love or murder? The world remains divided.
